BMW’s new entry in the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans features artist Julie Mehretu’s livery. It marks the 20th in BMW’s Art Car series. The livery will be on the M Hybrid V8 race car. This car will compete in the Le Mans hypercar class on June 15th and 16th, 2024.

BMW often collaborates with artists, blending creativity and car design. They’ve used Art Cars on both roads and tracks. Previously, pop artist Jeff Koons designed the Gran Coupe’s Art Car.

Mehretu is known for mixing technical drawings and illustrations. Her digital design will make the BMW Art Car unique. It will stand out against the standard M liveries of other cars.

Mehretu sees the Art Car as more than just art. It’s a dynamic presence on the track. The BMW Art Car project also supports pan-African media workshops for filmmakers. It will end with an exhibition in Cape Town.

The Art Car will debut at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Then, it will go to Villa d’Este in Italy and return to Le Mans for final preparations. In June, it will compete against Ferrari, Porsche, and Toyota for a win.
